Classification
Sodium Bicarbonate-Sulfate-Chloride spring
A hot 75.8 °C sodium-bicarbonate spring with sulfate and chloride layered in, sitting at neutral pH 6.7 — well above 65 °C, among Japan's hotter natural sources. A faint hydrogen sulfide note hangs over the bath. With 303.8 mg/kg of metasilicic acid, the water leaves a thin silica film that makes skin feel noticeably smoother afterwards.
13. Oyado Noshiyu, Kurokawa Onsen ★★
I visited for a day trip; it's located near the Kurokawa tourist center. The area consists of separate cottages, with a very natural and old-fashioned vibe. Usually, day trips are available from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with some weekend days during the week. It is part of the Kurokawa tag. For day trip visitors, only one large outdoor bath is accessible. Guests staying at partner inns Fujiya and inn-NOSHIYU also have free access to the outdoor bath at Oyado Noshiyu from 3:00 PM to 9:30 PM and from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Those staying directly at Oyado Noshiyu have access to an additional public indoor bath and five different private baths.
The large outdoor bath is made of stone. There is a fence, but everything is surrounded by trees, creating a very natural and pleasant atmosphere both during the day and in the evening. The water is clear, with varying temperatures: it was 40°C on one visit and 43°C on another. Additionally, in a secluded corner of the bath, the temperature was one degree higher. The bath is shallower under the roof.
A great large rotenburo (outdoor bath) and a convenient location; recommended for visiting.
