A ryokan in Akayu onsen, Yamagata, built around its baths. There are twelve kinds in all, split between an east and a west wing that swap between men and women, so you can try both during one stay. The east side has a large indoor bath and a rock-lined open-air bath, and there is a mist sauna. A private bath, Gotenno-yu (御殿の湯), can be reserved by the slot, and two special guest rooms have their own onsen bath. Outside, there is a drinking spot for the spring water, Kame-no-yu (亀の湯), and a foot bath for cherry blossom season, Hanami-no-ashiyu (花見の足湯). Parking is free.
