About
The single bath here is a hinoki (檜) cypress tub, built by hand by the owner and booked privately, one party at a time. There are actually two basins, one filled straight from the spring and left on the cool side, the other gently heated, so you move between them and warm up slowly rather than all at once, the nuruyu (ぬる湯) style. The bathroom window opens onto the forest, and guests say you can open it for fresh air while you soak. This is the Suzuran spring (すずらん温泉), a different, milder source from the milky sulfur water most of Norikura Kogen is known for. The same family has run Lodge Cosmos since 1984, with a cat around these days too, and guests come back as much for the wife's home cooking as for the bath itself.
