Ryokan Hayamizuso is in Yunoo Onsen (湯之尾温泉), a hot-spring town by the river with a history going back to 1810. The open-air bath faces the river, under a night sky good enough to be named among Japan's notable stargazing spots. The indoor bath is built entirely in cypress, with stones set into the floor underfoot. The water itself is soft and smooth on the skin. The ryokan is known for its irori (囲炉裏) hearth rooms and detached guest buildings.
