Lodge Fumoto is a small family-run guesthouse at the foot of Mt. Norikura, on Norikura Kogen Onsen (乗鞍高原温泉), piped in from the Yukawa (湯川) source. The water is acidic and sulfurous, turning cloudy white as sulfur flakes (yunohana, 湯の花) settle out, with a smell strong enough that one guest compared it to Manza Onsen. There's one open-air bath, Yamaboushi-no-yu (やまぼうしの湯), that you can reserve for your own private time, plus separate small indoor baths for men and women on the same source. The building has some age to it, more homey lodge than polished ryokan, and the family that runs it is known for seasonal home cooking: mountain vegetables in spring, wild mushrooms in autumn.
