Suimeiso is a kokuminshukusha (国民宿舎), a public-run lodge, on the shore of Lake Togo in Yurihama, Tottori. The indoor bath is glassed in, so you can watch the lake even while soaking, and the fifth-floor open-air bath has the same view, best around sunset. Two private baths with a courtyard and step-free access can be booked for a soak alone, and a drinking fountain of onsen water at the entrance, called Ryusen no Yu (龍泉の湯), is popular enough that guests fill bottles to take home. The water itself rises from beneath the lake and feels clear and smooth on the skin. Rooms look out over the lake too, dinner is a kaiseki (会席) course built around local ingredients, and breakfast is a buffet. Day-use bathers can use the indoor bath only; the fifth-floor open-air bath is kept for overnight guests.
