Katsuragisou is a ryokan at Futamata onsen in Tenei village, Fukushima, with all-tatami guest rooms. It has two indoor baths and one rock-built open-air bath, and the men's and women's sides swap over. The open-air bath is closed in winter. The spring is a self-flowing one, where the hot water comes up to the surface on its own, and the inn says the bathing can go on around the clock for guests. Futamata is said to be an old Heike refugee hamlet with over a thousand years of bathing history, and the inn plays on that quiet, remote feel. Reviewers praise the cooking, especially the fried iwana (char), and the clean, roomy rooms.
