Yukotan no Mori is a hot-spring hotel in the forest at the foot of Mt. Iwate, in Shizukuishi. Its bathing building has a hinoki cypress bath with its own attached open-air pool, plus a separate rock bath, Kitsune-Tanuki no Yu (きつね・たぬきの湯), set among the trees and closed some winters. The water carries a faint sulfur scent and feels smooth on the skin. In winter the open-air baths turn into snow-viewing baths, and guests staying overnight get a separate view bath looking out over Mt. Iwate and the pastureland below. Day visitors can use the Mori no Yu bath building only, and there's a restaurant on site for a meal afterward.
