Akagi Onsen Yunosawa Inn

Yunosawakan is a small ryokan on a mountain road above Akagi Onsen, with two named baths: the indoor Akagi Meigetsu-buro (赤城名月風呂) and the outdoor Seoto Dai-Rotenburo (瀬音大露天風呂), set beside a waterfall and a clear stream. The spring water rises clear but turns cloudy and shifts color through the day, brownish and iron-tinged, with a light carbonated tingle and small flecks of yu-no-hana (湯の花) mineral that settle on the tub. It's kept flowing from the source rather than recirculated, then diluted and gently warmed so young children and sensitive skin can bathe comfortably. One returning guest's favorite is the nuru-yu (ぬるゆ), a separate pool kept at the source's natural lukewarm temperature, going back and forth between that and the hot bath. Both baths switch between men and women through the day and become mixed at night. The narrow mountain road down to the inn gives it a real hideaway feel, with Mt. Akagi in view and birdsong outside. It's an old, unpretentious countryside inn, worn at the edges but kept tidy inside.
