Iide Soegawa Onsen Shirasagiso

Shirasagiso is a plain, working onsen ryokan in Iide, a quiet rural town ringed by mountains in Yamagata's Okitama region. The bath here covers the basics: an indoor bath, an open-air rotenburo, a sauna, and a cold plunge. The water runs with a light brown tint and leaves skin smooth after a soak. Most of the crowd is local, coming in just for the day, and the place is built around them: a yakiniku restaurant and a small stand selling local vegetables. Overnight guests stay in plain tatami rooms with mountain views, and the inn's meal plans feature Yonezawa beef, which is raised mainly in Iide.
