This ryokan sits a short walk from Unzen Jigoku, the steaming hell valley, and its baths carry the sulfur water the area is known for, cloudy white in some of the tubs and clear in others. The indoor bath and open-air bath swap between men and women on a set schedule, and the Tsukitei rooms each have a private open-air bath, fed by a separate spring and set beside a Japanese garden. It's a calm, fairly traditional stay, the kind of place where the rooms and public areas have been kept up rather than left to age, and guests mention the quiet as much as the water.
