Yunohanatei

Yunohanatei has two large communal baths at Toi onsen: an indoor bath with a view, and a rotenburo, Hana no Yu (花の湯), whose tub floor is lined with a special water-resistant tatami mat instead of tile. About half of the inn's 32 guest rooms have their own private open-air bath finished the same way, fed by the same natural hot spring water as the baths downstairs, with a view over Suruga Bay. Two saunas round things out, kept separate for men and women like the rest of the baths. Tatami runs through the whole building, not just the baths: the hallways, the elevators, even the karaoke room are floored in it. It's an unpretentious ryokan right on the beach on the west coast of the Izu Peninsula, where meals come to your room and, from some rooms, you can step straight down to the sand in your swimsuit.
