About
Ogiya is an old ryokan in Takeo Onsen, built up and added to over the years into a maze-like layout of stairways and antique furnishings that gives it the feel of an earlier era. Bathing here is always private: three separate baths, one lined in cedar, one in sakura granite, and one built entirely of hinoki cypress, are booked one party at a time rather than shared. The water is a weakly alkaline spring, smooth on the skin, and known locally as a beauty bath. A reservation-only sauna annex with a hot and cold plunge can be booked at the front desk, and some rooms come with their own open-air bath. The inn is also known for its kaiseki dinners, served either in the room or in one of its two dining rooms.
