A stay here includes free entry to the bathhouse next door, Ofuro Café Biwakoza, where an indoor bath, an open-air bath and a sauna are filled with natural hot spring water, plus a free mud pack. The complex is styled after an old post town on the Tokaido road, Otsu's own stop on it, and also has a yakiniku restaurant, a cafe and bar pouring local craft beer, and a monthly popular theater show of period drama and dance that guests can watch for free. Otsu is under twenty minutes from Kyoto by train, so it works well as a base for sightseeing too.
