Otsu onsen Ofuro cafe Biwako-za is a large day-use bathhouse built around the idea of an old Tokaido post town, with warm wood interiors and several separate lounges. Natural hot-spring water fills every tub in the men's and women's bathing areas: an indoor bath, an open-air rotenburo with a mineral mud pack you can smooth onto the skin, a warm nuruyu soak, a jet bath, a cold plunge, and a sauna with regular automated steam sessions. Beyond the baths there is a corner stocked with manga and magazines, a recliner lounge for napping, a restaurant and a cafe-bar, a karaoke room, a mahjong room, and a theater that hosts taishu engeki (大衆演劇), a traveling popular-theater tradition, on a regular schedule. A hotel is attached to the complex.
