The place is known for its elaborate large outdoor bath area with different baths. Higaeri is listed from 10:00 to 21:00. For higaeri, private baths are available for ¥3 000 from 12:00 to 15:00. I got the Goyuin Meguri Gifu 2025-2026 stamp. They are stamping the Shuneisha 2026-2027 stamp. The bath photos are from the internet, and they match. A top onsen spot in Okuhida. A must-visit. The large outdoor bath area is really impressive, both in atmosphere and in size, with many baths and good water. About the baths: 1. Large outdoor bath area. It runs between the large indoor bath area for higaeri guests and the small indoor bath area for overnight guests. There is a fence, but you still get a wide view of the mountains and forest. 1.1. Round bath for one person, the closest one to the entrance of the large indoor bath area. The water is clear pale blue, with white lime deposits. Temperature was 42.5. 1.2. Hirayu no Mori sits in the forests of Okuhida Onsengokyo (奥飛騨温泉郷) and puts most of its energy into the baths. There are 16 rotenburo between the men's and women's sides, fed by two spring sources: one milky white, the other clear. Both flow fresh without recirculation. You move between pools at different temperatures through the trees, with mountain views that shift through snow and autumn color by season. The large indoor bath has an arched ceiling in Meiji-era style. Private rental baths in cast-iron kettle tubs are bookable for day visitors, and a Finnish barrel sauna sits in the forest for those who want it. The five cottages each have their own open-air private bath.
