Notoro Onsen Tenku no Yu sits up in the hills of Okayama, with two open-air baths, one facing east and one west, that swap between the men's and women's sides every two weeks, plus a pair of indoor tubs. The alkaline spring water is kept noticeably on the cool side rather than hot, so people tend to settle in for a long soak while looking out over the surrounding mountains of the Chugoku range. The on-site restaurant, Notoro-kan (のとろ館), serves dishes built around wild greens and mushrooms gathered from the local hills.
