Ichinomata Onsen Tourist Hotel is an old ryokan tucked in the mountains of Shimonoseki, right beside the Ichinomata river. The spring is a strongly alkaline sulfur water that guests and locals both describe as slippery and smooth on the skin, filling an open-air bath that looks out over the hills and a large indoor bath with big windows. There is also a reservable private family bath. After bathing, a small food stall serves a light meal. The inn is known locally for fireflies along the river in early summer, and the setting is quiet enough that the river is about all you hear.
